3 Things I like in My Ipon Diary

Tipid Monitoring Chart

We are aware that the first step towards saving money is keeping track of your expenses. It’s often said, “You can’t manage what you don’t measure.” Understanding your financial management habits is a crucial aspect of saving money. By doing so, you can evaluate your current financial status.

To begin monitoring your expenses and distinguishing between your needs and wants, this is an excellent method. Once you’ve identified the difference, you can eliminate some of your wants that you may have mistaken for a need.

However, it’s important to be kind to yourself and not be too harsh. Your cash flow will eventually improve over time.

S.M.A.R.T Goal

I appreciate how the book highlights the significance of setting a SMART goal. A goal is essentially a plan of action, but it’s crucial to begin with the end in mind.

However, you might be wondering how to start when the end seems far away. This is where having a SMART goal comes in.

If you’re smart, your goal should also be SMART, which stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.

With a SMART goal, you increase your likelihood of success. Allow me to provide an example to illustrate this point.

Example:

“My goal is to purchase a brand new Apple MacBook Pro 13″ laptop that costs Php71,690, which I will be using to enhance my creative space. I plan to achieve this goal within the next 5 months by saving Php14,339 every month. This goal is relevant to my needs as I require a laptop with advanced graphics capabilities to support my activities on my Facebook page, blog, and vlog. The timeline of 5 months provides a specific and measurable time-bound target for me to achieve my goal.”

52-Weeks Ipon Challenge

“This year, the challenge has gained a lot of popularity, so it’s possible that someone from your workplace has taken it up. However, I find the challenge to be quite difficult, especially towards the end.

On the other hand, Chinkee suggested a more practical and easier way to start saving. Rather than following the trend of saving 1 peso, 5 pesos, 10 pesos, 20 pesos, all the way up to 1000 pesos, which can be very challenging for those who are just beginning to save, Chinkee’s approach is much more feasible.

I must say, Chinkee has won me over as a fan.

My advice to everyone is to save whatever amount you can manage, and don’t restrict yourself to a particular challenge. If you can save 52,000 pesos per year, that’s great. And if you can save even more, that’s even better.

You don’t need to compete with anyone else, just strive to better yourself.”
