According to Labor Attaché Bienvenido Cerbo, Jr. from POLO-Taichung, Filipino workers have high chance of being hired since they are the preferred choice among employers. This presents a golden opportunity for the Philippines.

Electronics Factory Workers in Demand in Taichung,hire-Filipinos Taiwan

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in the central district of Taiwan recently shared an update regarding the high demand for Filipino workers. The electronics sector, in particular, has a significant need for Filipino workers, and they are at the top of the list of preferred candidates. This preference stems from Taiwan considering the Philippine labor market as specialized and highly suitable for their requirements. Out of the 149,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) currently in Taiwan, more than 55,000 are employed in the electronics industry.

Waiting to Open Borders for Filipino Employment in Taiwan

The employment possibilities mentioned earlier are contingent upon Taiwan’s decision to reopen its borders. Currently, travel has been suspended due to the ongoing global health crisis caused by the pandemic. This has resulted in Taiwan closing its borders, including for Filipino employment.

It is important to note that our country is currently facing a severe health crisis. The pandemic has prompted Taiwan to temporarily halt travel, affecting the ability of Filipinos to seek employment opportunities there

Taiwan to Hire 40,000 Workers

Cerbo mentioned that due to Taiwan’s strong job market, it is expected to employ 40,000 individuals within the next two to three years.

Even if we only capture 20 to 25 percent of the market share, there is a projected 32 percent increase in production, which is quite commendable. It is estimated that if we could obtain a 20% share of the market, it would require 40,000 Filipino employees.

Currently, there are 32,658 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Taichung, with a majority of them employed as factory workers in the semiconductor industry.
